HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – It will be eight-for-eight for Rick Snyder.
The office of Michigan’s governor has confirmed to Tulip Time Festival officials that the Ann Arbor-area Republican, who had performed as a band member in Holland’s annual signature event as a prepster, will again make the keynote address at the Festival Luncheon in DeVos Fieldhouse on May 9th. Unlike his predecessor Jennifer Granholm, who only attended four of eight festivals during her tenure, and just one of the last four, Mr. Snyder has not missed this event while in office that was formerly known as the “Governor’s Luncheon” before Granholm’s absences compelled festival officials to change its name.
The Governor will headline a number of Lansing dignitaries that will be in attendance, including Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley, who is angling to replace the term-limited Mr. Snyder this fall. The Governor is also expected to don traditional Dutch garb following the Luncheon and participate in the Metal Flow Volksparade in the ceremonial “scrubbing” of 8th Street downtown.
Over 900 are expected to attend this spotlight event for the festival. Tickets at 50 dollars for main floor seating and 40 dollars for the concourse are available at the Tulip Time offices off of 8th Street or online.
In other Tulip Time Festival news, the “Tulips and Juleps” event, co-sponsored by Holland/Zeeland Young Professionals, will be on Saturday, May 5th at Boatwerks Restaurant. It’s the second-annual tie in between Holland’s main event and the event that most of sporting America associates with the first Saturday in May – the Kentucky Derby. More information is also available at the festival website.
The 89th Festival officially kicks off its eight-day run on May 5th.
