HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Holland’s new City Manager is now in place.
The City Council last night approved a two-year contract with Keith Van Beek to become the Tulip City’s new chief operating officer, with a starting salary of over 135 thousand dollars. This is a six-percent increase over what Ryan Cotton was earning when he stepped down from the job last June after five years, but is in line with what Cotton would have received if he had remained. Van Beek, a Zeeland native and Holland resident who has been Ottawa County’s Deputy Administrator for the past nine years, was chosen a week ago over Novi Assistant City Manager Victor Cardenas to culminate a lengthy search process that saw 60 applicants seek the position.
In addition to approving the contract, Council also endorsed an April 9th date for when Van Beek will assume his new duties. Public Safety Chief Matt Messer, who added the Interim City Manager duties six weeks ago when a seven-month pact with Greg Robinson expired, will remain at the operational helm through the end of Van Beek’s first week on the job, which includes scheduled budget sessions with Council for the Fiscal 2019 spending plan.
