LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Perhaps the damage in the Lower Peninsula caused by last month’s flooding is enough to get some aid from Washington.
That’s what Governor Snyder and state officials are hoping as he requested that the US Small Business Administration conduct assessments for eight counties, including Allegan and Ottawa, that were affected by the combination of heavy rains and early snowmelt that caused rivers to overflow, most notably the Grand and Kalamazoo rivers. This comes a day after Mr. Snyder declared 17 counties in a state of disaster that would allow all state resources to be made available to the impacted areas, with those recovery efforts led by the state police’s Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division.
If the SBA concurs with the Governor’s assessment, it would make low-interest loans available for businesses and residents affected by the flooding. No timetable for when a decision on that was immediately disclosed.
