PARK TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A 46-year-old Zeeland man was arraigned on Friday morning in Holland District Court on multiple felony charges stemming from an early Wednesday morning robbery at a Park Township residence.
Kelly Wayne Harmsen was ordered held on 750 thousand dollars bond after allegedly breaking into the home in the 16-thousand-800 block of Riley Street, near 168th Avenue, around 4:30 AM. Displaying a weapon, he bound up a 54-year-old woman and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. The victim, who was shaken but unhurt, was able to loosen her bonds and called for help.
A canine unit from the Holland Department of Public Safety followed the suspect’s scent to a vehicle parked nearby, and according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Captain Mark Bennett, Harmsen was tracked to his workplace in Holland Township and apprehended on Wednesday afternoon without incident. He faces counts of home invasion, assault with intent to commit armed robbery, home imprisonment and felony firearms, with no preliminary hearing date set.
The investigation into the incident is still open, and anyone with any information is asked to contact the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department or Silent Observer.
