HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A 54-year-old Park Township man has been arraigned on charges involving alleged downloading of child porn over a several months-long period.
Donald Oosterbaan is free on five thousand dollars bond, but he was ordered to avoid any contact with youths 18 years or younger and to stay off of any school grounds during a Friday morning hearing in Holland District Court on three counts of distributing or promoting child sexually abusive activity, possessing child sexually abusive materials, and using a computer to commit a crime.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Detective Captain Mark Bennett, investigators from the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force alerted deputies and Holland Public Safety officers at the Computer Forensics Laboratory in Ottawa County last July about such downloads coming from an IP address registered to an unnamed senior assisted living facility on Holland’s North Side. “It appears as though the suspect may have been attempting to conceal his activity by using public wi-fi,” Bennett said. “It was also determined that several different dates of downloads had occurred from the fall and winter of 2017 into early 2018.”
After establishing a time pattern for these downloads, detectives were able on Wednesday to arrest Oosterbaan as he entered the senior facility, of which he was not a resident. No date for a preliminary hearing was initially set.
