ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – It promises to be an action-packed Zeeland City Council meeting tonight if some the items on the agenda are addressed.
Council will be asked to endorse the inclusion of a roundabout as part of the intersection reconstruction of the Main Avenue at Washington Avenue junction on the city’s western gateway. City Manager Tim Klunder says that a decision is needed no later than May 1st in order to have the estimated 2.1 million-dollar project bid out by the end of this year and to have work begun next spring. There have been public sentiment for and against the roundabout.
In addition, council will be asked to make a two-year commitment to the addition of a “Route 11” to the Macatawa Area Express fixed bus service that would include stops at Spectrum-Zeeland Community Hospital and the Holland Hospital urgent care facility near the city’s eastern gateway. The current fixed route into Zeeland cannot accommodate such stops, and there is also sentiment that the emergence of the ride sharing industry could make this addition irrelevant.
Also, the Zeeland City Council is being asked to approve a non-binding resolution opposing the recreational use of marijuana ahead of a statewide ballot proposal slated for this November.
A 5:45 PM work-study session will be held prior to Council’s 7 PM business meeting at Zeeland City Hall. A link to the agenda and supporting documents is here.
