GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A 22-year-old Holland man will be standing trial on various felony charges stemming from an armed robbery and shooting incident nearly a year ago in the Holland Heights neighborhood.
A plea deal for Justin Mason collapsed yesterday when his attorney withdrew from the case, another lawyer was appointed for the accused, and Mason did not follow through on a plea before Ottawa County Circuit Court Judge Karen Miedema. Prosecutors said that no new deal will be offered, and a trial date for Mason is pending.
He is accused of shooting a 25-year-old man sitting in a parked car in the chest during a robbery attempt last March 29th in front of a residence in the 300 block of Stratford Way. The victim was able to drive to Holland Hospital for treatment of the non-life threatening wound.
Mason, who could face life in prison if found guilty, remains in the Ottawa County Jail on 750 thousand dollars bond.
