SAUGATUCK, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The third and final public forum on two ballot proposals in the Saugatuck Public Schools district is this evening.
Beginning at 6:30 PM in the Saugatuck Center for the Arts, Superintendent Dr. Tim Travis and other school officials will be on hand to explain why the district is asking for approval of a 1.17 mill tax to fund a 50.7 million-dollar bond issue that would pay for expanding the building that houses Saugatuck’s junior and senior high schools, as well as improvements at Douglas Elementary School. There will be renderings of plans for such upgrades during this forum.
There is also a request to restore a half-mill levy for a sinking fund that would handle infrastructure repairs, school security and technology upgrades over the next five years. Such a millage had expired at the end of 2017.
Two earlier forums were held this month at Saugatuck High and at Douglas Elementary School. Both proposals will be before voters in the district on May 8th, and more information is here
