LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The former Chief of Police in Bangor is among seven current and former police officers statewide facing a total of over 100 felony fraud charges involving alleged falsification of Secretary of State documents in order to secure new motor vehicle titles.
The office of State Attorney General Bill Schuette made the announcement on Thursday against 39-year-old Elaine Danishevskaya of Davisburg, who was arraigned in South Haven District Court on 25 felony counts stemming from inspections by the Bangor Police Department. Detroit Police Officer Tammy Barnes was also arraigned on 18 counts of “uttering and publishing” in conjunction with those inspections in that Van Buren County community.
The charges came following an investigation by the FBI Detroit-Area Public Corruption Task Force and the Michigan State Police, and Danishevskaya and Barnes were among those specially trained and certified to conduct salvage vehicle inspections. Each felony count of Uttering and Publishing is punishable by up to 14 years in prison.
