HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Tomorrow is the last day to buy discounted tickets to the Center for Women in Transition’s 26th annual Reach for the Stars fundraiser, set for April 19 the Hudsonville’s Pinnacle Center. Tickets are $100 but after Saturday, the cost goes up to $125.
The Center’s executive director, Beth Larsen, says the #METOO movement, which has women and some men talking openly about their experiences with sexual asault and sexual harassment — has raised awareness and even brought more volunteers to CWIT, including a concerned dad.
“He was appaled by the number of people he knew personally that had posted (their #METOO stories on social media), and then, all of a sudden, my daughters’ popped up and I was absolutely crushed,” she said. That’s what motivated him to contact CWIT to learn how he could support suvivors.
The Center provides help and confidential counseling to more than 3,000 women, men, and children in Ottawa and Allegan counties annually.
The April 19 gala will feature a keynote address by a former CWIT client, she said.
