HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — A Holland man is in custody after a fatal Holland Township crash Monday evening.
Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Eric Westveer said a passenger in that man’s car, 43-year-old Chieu Tran of Holland, was rushed to Spectrum Health Butterworth in Grand Rapids, where he died while in surgery.
The crash happened, Westveer said, when the suspect failed to stop his Ford Taurus at the intersection of Quincy Street and 104th Avenue.
A 2007 Chevy Express cargo van, driven by Hamiton resident Mary Duren, 20, slammed into the Taurus. Duren and her passengers, Holland resident Steven Amick, 48, suffered minor injuries and refused treatment at the scene, Westveer said.
The 49-year-old Holland resident now in police custody was treated at Spectrum Zeeland Hospital, then taken to Ottawa County Jail.
Westveer said drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor in the crash.
Sheriff’s deputies were aided by Holland Township Fire Rescue and AMR Ambulance.
