HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch starting at 5 a.m. Saturday and running through noon Sunday for parts of West Michigan.
Meteorologists are calling it a major spring storm, predicting significant icing possible in Ottawa, Kent, Ionia and Clinton counties. Further south, storms could cause flooding.
The ice could make for treacherous driving conditions, as well as break tree branches and power lines.
Consumers Energy issued a statement late Thursday saying power outages are possible. Company officials suggests prepping for the storm and ask people to stay at least 25 feet away from downed power lines. If you see a downed power line, call 911 to report it.
Consumers Energy safety tips include cautioning anyone using a generator make sure the area is well ventilated and to turn off the generator before refueling.
