ALLEGAN COUNTY (WHTC-AM/FM) — In a weekend press release emailed to media, Michael Villar announced he is running for Allegan County Prosecuting Attorney.
Villar, a Republican, said in the release he is a pro-life supporter and his 25-year private-practice record includes cases predominately in Allegan, Holland, Grand Haven, Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids.
He’s lived in Allegan County for more than 27 years, according to his press release.
Villar is a 1991 graduate of University of Michigan Law School and clerked for for the Allegan County Circuit Judge George R. Corsiglia as well as at the Michigan Court of Appeals. He entered private practice in 1993, he said.
A member of the City of Allegan’s Downtown Development Authority, he has also worked as a summer pastor for Hidden Ridge Campground in Shelbyville; has coached Little League baseball and served on the Allegan County Fair’s board of directors, as well as for a number of other community organzations.
His press release notes he has owned Michael Villar Properties, LLC, since 1995, which owns and operates commercial buildings in downtown Allegan.
He’ll face off with current Allegan Co. Prosecutor Myrene K. Koch, appointed to the post in March after serving as an assistant prosecutor since 2002 and chief assistant prosecutor since 2017.
