HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Holland-area voters agreed to renew a millage that comprises more than half of the Holland Aquatic Center’s operating budget. Of the 2,222 voters who turned out,1,854 — 83.4 percent — agreed to renew te meausre for five years, starting in 2019.
The current millage expires on Dec. 31, 2018; the renewed millage will expire in 2023.
A mil refers to a fraction of a penny, .001, which amounts to $1 per 1,000 of a home’s state-equalized value (SEV). Generally speaking, the SEV of a $100,000 home would be $50,000 and a homeowner would ay $50 per year for the millage.
The Holland Aquatic Center uses the millage for operating costs. The tax will yield $1,285,072 in 2019.
