HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Holland’s Civic Center, currently under a $16.5 million renovation, is getting a $1 million donation from Elsa Prince-Broekhuizen.
The donation comes via the Community Foundation of the Holland/Zeeland Area and is dedicated to the renovation and expansion of the market area, plaza and landscaping features. Prince-Broekhuizen will retain the naming rights for the market/plaza area and will have a say in how the area is designed.
In addition to Elsa (Zwiep) Prince Broekhuizen’s gift, campaign leaders also announced thatapproximately $450,000 in additional charitable gifts has been raised for the project from a collection ofarea businesses, families and individuals. The Heart of the Community fundraisinig co-chairs, Nathan Bocks and Cindy Pocock, expressed gratitude for the donations while urging others to pitch in by buying brick pavers.
“We are offering opportunites for donors to buy a brick. What a great way to honor someone or get it in memory of someone,” said Pocock, adding that the bricks would be a permanent part of the Civic Center Place. She went on to say no gift is too small or too large, eliciting laughter from those present.
The campaign now has its own website, civiccenterplace.com.
