HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — The City of the Village of Douglas has a Public Hearing set for 7 p.m. Wed. June 13th at the City Offices 28 Center St.
Resident Mary Lukens plans on being there and she’s asking others to join her. Lukens is not happy that city officials are entertaining the idea of allowing a Dollar General to be built at Douglas’ south entrace.
She worries about the economic pressure on Douglas’ small grocery store but that’s not the only reason.
“It doesn’t fit the character of Douglas,” said resident MaryLukens. “Douglas is a tourist town.”
Lukens said she does use the existing Dollar General, less than three miles to the north on Blue Star Highway near Holland Street, and suggested that store is close enough.
Dollar General would be next to The Dunes Resort where there’s currently a car wash.
