MARNE, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A waterway in eastern Ottawa County is off limits for the moment.
After a Thursday notification from the state Department of Environmental Quality of a sewage release, stemming from a sewer main break in the vicinity of Three Mile Road near Fruit Ridge Avenue in Walker, the Ottawa County Department of Public Health issued a No Body Contact Advisory for the length of Sand Creek that runs through Tallmadge and Wright townships. It was not immediately announced how much untreated sewage had escaped due to this incident.
County health officials advise that persons should avoid any body contact with the waters of Sand Creek, particularly any submerging of the head, until the advisory is lifted, with no timetable as to when further water testing would take place.
