Brock Alan Grant passed away suddenly at the age of 47 of a heart attack, while at home on April 22, 2022.
He is survived by his parents, Ann and Tom Alderink, his ex-wife Whitney Grant and their children Finn (7) and Birdie (almost 2), his son Carter (21), his brother Brian Grant, sister Giesela (Randy) Fuller, step-brothers Mike (Erin) Alderink, Jon Aldreink (Andrea Naill-Alderink), and Matt Alderink (Sarah Janke), as well as aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many many friends. Though Brock and Whitney had recently divorced, they remained very close. Brock is preceded in death by his father, Herbert Grant.
Brock was born in New Albany Mississippi to Ann and Herbert Grant. Ann moved back to her hometown of Holland, MI after Herbert’s passing when Brock was 3. Brock attended Holland High School where he was on the diving team. He later coached the diving team for many years. Brock also attended Hope College.
Brock was charismatic and extroverted to his core. He never met a stranger in his life. Brock loved to laugh and was one of the funniest people on the planet. Another love of Brock’s was surfing. He began surfing on Lake Michigan when he was 16 years old and was one of the founding members of the Kook Squad, a winter surfing group that exists to this day. Brock also loved to travel and traveled extensively when he worked as a Photo Production Assistant for Vito Palmisano for many years. For the last six years, Brock was a Marketing Consultant for WHTC, the Van Radio Station in Holland.
Most of all, Brock loved spending time with his friends and family, especially his children.
We will have a Celebration of Life for Brock this summer. We will share details of the event as we make arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donating to one of the organizations that were near and dear to Brock’s heart:
3Sixty is an organization that connects neighbors, shares resources, and builds community in the neighborhood Brock lived. https://www.3-sixty.org/donate
Or you could write a check to The City of Holland, in care of Holland In Bloom, to fund local beautification projects in the city of Holland.
Arrangements are by the Dykstra Funeral Home-Mulder Chapel.
