HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 21, 2022) – Matthew Jones has apparently made quite an impression in a short period of time on the Holland Department of Public Safety Fire Services Division.
A Firefighter-EMT in the department for only two and a half years, Jones was nominated by his colleagues and selected by the division’s command officers as the Firefighter of the Year for 2022. Along with the responsibilities that comes with his position, Jones is a member of the department’s Community Involvement Unit, where he spearheaded the development of an address program where residents that need high visibility address signs can purchase them through the department.
“Firefighter Jones is recognized for his consistently positive attitude and high degree of professionalism,” Fire Services Chief Chris Tinney said in a department statement. “He demonstrates this through the quality of his work and attention to continuous growth as a person and as a firefighter. He exercises the department’s core values of compassion, respect, integrity, professionalism, and dedication on a regular basis.”
Although relatively new to the Holland DPS, Jones spent two decades in the US Army as a medic and an assistant inspector general, rising to the rank of Master Sergeant before his retirement. He also remains a member of the Allendale Fire Department, where he served before coming to Holland.
