HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Nathan Bocks officially announced his candidacy for Mayor of Holland, in an email to the media this morning. He’ll be on WHTC at 8:15 today, Nov. 13, 2018, to talk about his decision.
Bocks is a lawyer who has lived in Holland since his Hope College student days. He owns Central Park Law.
He may best be known for his recent chairmanship for the Civic Center Place advisory board. But over the last 25 years, he’s been on more than a dozen community, non-profit, and service organization boards and commissions, including as chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals; the Tulip Time Festiveal board.
“I love Holland. For years my motto has been, ‘And I get to live here!’ My goal is to be the strong, effective voice in City Hall that our Holland families deserve.”
The current mayor, Nancy DeBoer, has been in office since 2015. Prior to that, she was on city council as an at-large member for a decade. Bocks said he let DeBoer and the all of the city council members know about his campaign plans. WHTC has messaged Mayor DeBoer for her comments.
The mayor’s job is a two-year term. Peters ran against Deboer in 2017 with DeBoer winning by a very narrow margin: 3,028 to 2,902 votes or 51.1 percent to 48.9 percent.
Jay Peters, Brian Lynn, Dave Hoekstra, Wayne Klomparens are all on the 2019 ballot as well.
