HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Consumer’s Energy is ready for possible power outages as the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids has issued a High Wind Watch Tuesday evening starting at 6:00 p.m. for Ottawa and Allegan Counties.
Sustained winds will be over 40 mph with some gusts over 60 mph. That could create power outages, downed trees and power lines.
Consumer’s Energy Roger Morgenstern says they are ready with crews and equipment ready to go. Customers need to be ready too by charging your electronic devices, making sure you have water and food and don’t forget aboutyour pets needs.
“For some reason if you’re out of power for a couple days and we hope that doesn’t happen, if you use a portable generator please make sure it is properly installed and vented. Do not run it in a garage or carport. It can create carbon monoxide which is odorless, colorless and can kill you.”
In the event of a power outage, you can reach Consumers Energy 24/7 at 1-800-557-4625 or online. Business customers can sign up for text alerts by texting REG to 232273 (CECARE) and providing their account number when prompted. Additional storm and outage alerts are available online from the Consumers Energy outage center.
