HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – While the Holland Human Relation Commission’s Social Justice Award Presentation highlights this evening’s Holland City Council meeting, it is by no means the only thing that the Tulip City’s governing panel has to decide on.
City Manager Ryan Cotton is recommending that council take a proposed resolution that was set aside two weeks ago off of the table and adopt the joint document with Holland Township that is necessary for a state Department of Transportation Alternative Funds grant. The 1.1 million-dollar grant would go towards a non-motorized bridge linking Windmill Island Gardens with Holland’s North Side near the Boar’s Head plant.
The three million-dollar project hit a couple of snags late last year. One was a necessary lengthening of the span due to soil issues at the planned northern base of the bridge. The other was a federal mandate to have the bridge widened in order to accommodate ambulance access in an emergency. Those issues led to an increased cost of the project.
Bidding on building the bridge could come later this month.
