ALLENDALE, MI (WHTC) – A wrong way driver caused a two-vehicle head on crash Thursday evening in Allendale Township.
Sgt. Matt Wilfong of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were dispatched to 38th Avenue and Lake Michigan Drive after 21 year-old Kyle Kronin of Livonia was driving south on 48th Avenue when he was hit head-on by a northbound vehicle that was traveling in the southbound lane with no headlights on.
Isabelle VeenKamp who was driving a black 2005 Honda Civic, told deputies she had just turned left out of 48th West Apartments and tried to swerve when Kronin’s vehicle was coming toward her, but was unable to avoid the collision.
Two witnesses who told deputies that VeenKamp was driving northbound in the southbound lane without headlights on at around 10:55 p.m. She suffered minor injuries and was transported by Life EMS to an area hospital. Kronin was not injured in the crash.
VeenKamp who is listed in stable condition, was cited for driving the wrong way on a divided highway and with no headlights.
