HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – No one was injured in an apartment fire Saturday in Holland.
Captain Chris Tinney of the Holland Fire Department say crews were dispatched to an apartment at 709 Maple around 3:16 p.m. Saturday, January 21, for light smoke coming from the rear corner of the four unit apartment building. Crews found a small fire contained to a trash receptacle on the floor of a bedroom being used as an office.
Damage is estimated to be around $4,000 and all residents were able to return to their apartments. Tinney says the smoke alarm that was adjacent to the room where the fire originated failed to activate. Smoke alarms were then installed in each bedroom and common hallway by firefighters.
Holland Department of Public Safety was assisted by Holland Charter Fire Department and EMS Standby was provided by American Medical Response.
The Fire Department reminds residents that “Fire is Everyone’s Fight” and that residents should dispose of smoking materials in a non-combustible can or container and only dispose of them when they have sat for a period.
