HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Is there a solution for affordable housing in Holland?
City manager Ryan Cotten was a guest on WHTC’s Talk of the Town and says there are some projects on the horizon. At the city concil meeting Wednesday, council tabled the Master Plan. The plan has more than a thousand people involved through comments and suggestions during the course of 40-plus public meetings and individual submissions.
Cotten says the Master Plan contains suggestions for land use for the next ten years. A potential developer of the area near McDonalds and Cabel Drive would like to build a large number of what they called ‘affordable housing’.
“They wanted to make sure the land use plan was written in a way that would support that. There are some reasons why that would not be a good location as it’s not you’re typical neighborhood. It’s not close to institutions, no park potential, it doesn’t have the connectiveness and no walk ability. No conclusion has been made.”
Ccouncil approved an auxillary building approach where property owners can have a small home affliated with a larger home on one lot. That’s another option for affordable housing Cotten says.
