WRIGHT TWP, MI (WHTC) – A 21-year-old Muskegon woman is expected to survive after she was struck by a vehicle and sent into the air.
Brianna Esparza had gotten out of her vehicle to help another crash victim when she was struck on WB I-96 in Wright Township.
Sgt. Kristi Wendt of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were dispatched to around 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 9, after 18-year-old Angel Barcenas of Ravenna was in the right-hand lane and was struck from behind by a vehicle driven by Stacey Holmes, 32, of Kentwood. The collision disabled the Holmes vehicle in the middle of the highway.
Good Samaritan Brianna Esparza stopped to help Holmes and was struck by a vehicle driven by 51-year-old Jeni Rink of Coopersville. This left Esparza airborne and left both the Holmes and Rink vehicle disabled in the middle of the roadway.
From there another vehicle driven by 31-year-old Derrick Arens of Coopersville tried to avoid the collision and struck a vehicle driven by 51-year-old Jeni Rink. Rink was then pinned in her vehicle for 45 minutes and had to be extricated. Rink, Holmes and Esparza were all transported to Spectrum Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A 13-year-old passenger in theBarcenas vehicle was not injured in the collision.
The multi-vehicle crash had both lanes of the highway shut down for over an hour and a half.
Responding agencies were Life EMS, Wright-Tallmadge Fire Rescue and the Walker Police Department.
