HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – The Holland Department of Public Safety (HDPS) Firefighter of the Year has been announced.
Bret Groendyke who us a four-year veteran of the department received the award of Firefighter of the Year at an employee gathering on Friday. Groendyke was nominated by his peers for his positive attitude, EMT training coordination, willingness to help the public with child safety seats, his fundraising for medical equipment, and his research and development of the program to obtain more cost effective epinephrine injectors.
HDPS says Groendyke is an EMS Instructor Coordinator, in which he provides training to Holland Fire personnel and others from the outside. He has developed the departments state recognized Continuing Education Program, puts his heart and soul into the program and is an engaging instructor.
