WAYLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 13, 2022) – A community that was the backdrop of a high-profile human trafficking case was apparently the target of what police are calling a false alarm.
Wayland Chief of Police Mark Garnsey issued an email to area media outlets on Tuesday evening, saying, “Wayland Police have been investigating a sexual assault that was reported to have occurred in the Rabbit River Trail area in the City of Wayland. While the investigation is still on-going, investigators have determined this report to be unfounded.
“There are no suspects at large related to this case. Once the investigation has been completed, it will be turned over to the Allegan County Prosecutor’s Office for review.”
Last month, one of two persons who pled guilty to human trafficking charges stemming from a lengthy investigation at a Wayland home was sentenced.
