SOUTH HAVEN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 12, 2022) – A panel created to look at the future after the closure of the Palisades Nuclear Power Plant in Covert meets tomorrow evening.
The 33-member Palisades Community Advisory Panel, created by the Van Buren County Board, consists of various local leaders which aims to serve as a channel of community involvement with plant officials on the decommissioning of the facility. In the two-hour session, set to begin at 6 PM on the campus of Lake Michigan College in South Haven, will feature presentations by the Economic Growth Institute on an economic impact study, and by Holtec, who has been charged with taking the plant down, including removing and storing spent nuclear fuel, along with clean up of the site. Palisades is slated to start powering down next month.
