ALLENDALE, MI (WHTC) – Grand Valley State University is providing an incentive for its education students to developing their teaching skills in a challenging situation … to a certain extent.
The Allendale school announced a new scholarship availability for up to 20 students this coming fall that would cover the tuition cost of their semester teaching – about 65 hundred dollars – if they fulfill this requirement at one of three GVSU-authorized charter schools in the City of Detroit. This comes after seven students enrolled in this pilot program during this current academic year.
Grand Valley State Associate Vice-President for Charter Schools Tim Wood said in a university-released statement, “The Grand Valley students will learn how to positively shape a new teaching environment while learning to overcome the challenges that accompany it. They will also be serving students who need the highest amount of additional academic assistance.”
The Detroit Student Teacher Scholarship is being offered through the GVSU Charter Schools Office and its College of Education.
