GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC) – Congressman Bill Huizenga was greeted by a standing room only crowd of over 900 at Tuesday’s town hall in Grand Haven.
Everything from healthcare, proposed cuts to the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative to Planned Parenthood was discussed. The crowd was fired up often times booing especially when Huizenga said he does not believe that health care is constitutional right.
“What I believe we need to do now..I don’t believe it’s repairable in the structure that it’s in. The promise of greater care, better care to more people at a lower price didn’t happen. We cannot afford it and it is collapsing on itself. The question now is what do we do about it. We need to preserve some of those things that are very positive elements. I don’t believe anybody should be excluded from coverage because of a pre existing condition. Secondly we need to make sure there is no lifetime caps. Students need to stay on their parent’s health insurance.”
House Republicans are out with their long-awaited plan to repeal and replace Obamacare. The newly-unveiled plan would eliminate mandates that required individuals to be insured and employers to provide healthcare insurance. The bill maintains popular Obamacare rules including prohibiting health insurers from denying people coverage if they have pre-existing conditions.
The forum was heated at times, the congressman was praised for staying well past the scheduled end time of 9 p.m. to continue talking about the issues with people.
