Erma loved music and faithfully sang in the choir at Christ Memorial Church. She was an accomplished pianist and organist and most recently enjoyed accompanying the hymn sing at Appledorn East. Over the years, she provided musical accompaniment for countless worship services, including her favorite, Camp Geneva’s summer worship. One of her greatest joys was ministering as a pastor’s wife, a role she embraced for 64 years. Married to Bob, she was by his side as a partner in ministry in Gary, IN, Chicago, IL, Holland, MI, and Bradenton, Fl. Erma gave her heart to service by teaching Sunday school, leading grief groups, participating in daily vacation Bible school, and graciously opening her home in fellowship to friends and family.
Erma was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rev. Robert (Bob) Nykamp in 2018; her son, Ross in 2011, and her daughter Beth in 2005. She is survived by her son Randy (Sharon) Nykamp, and daughter in law, Cyndi Nykamp; six grandchildren: Keith (Dawn) Nykamp, Dirk Nykamp, Nicholas (Jennifer) Nykamp, Caleb (Rita) Nykamp, Lydia (Joshua) Gillett, Elijah Nykamp; nine great-grandchildren, brother Orvin (Thelma) Deters, brother-in-law Berne (Shari) Nykamp, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to honor Erma’s life and faith is planned for April 13, 1:00 pm, at Christ Memorial Church sanctuary (595 Graafschap Road, Holland, MI) with Rev. Caleb Nykamp officiating. The service will be live-streamed at https://youtu.be/bd-_TEt8lbs . A time of fellowship and light refreshments will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Christ Memorial Church or to Geneva Camp and Conference Center.
