LANSING, MI (WHTC) – Ridesharing services such as Lyft and Uber are now being regulated in Michigan just like taxi cabs and limousines.
Ridesharing organizations must now have cars over five-years-old assessed by a mechanic and perform criminal background checks on drivers.
Those with one major driving violation or four minor violations in the last three years and felons and people under 19-years-old will not be allowed to drive for ridesharing companies. Chauffeur’s licenses will not be required.
Lawmakers say the law was created to allow for greater competition between ridesharing and taxi companies.
