HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Authorities say a forensic autopsy was performed on 64-year-old Betty Vredevold and the cause of death is accidental hypothermia.
On Sunday, March 26, a newspaper deliverer spotted the body of Vredevold around 4:30 AM in the 600 block of Apple Avenue and immediately notified authorities. Efforts by first responders to revive her at the scene were unsuccessful, and she was pronounced deceased at Holland Hospital.
Captain Mark Bennett of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office says the forensic autopsy was performed at Blodgett Hospital and that no foul play is suspected.
“It appears an unfortunate medical event that contributed to her death.” Bennett says.
While the discovery occurred within the Holland city limits, Captain Mark Bennett and Ottawa County Sheriff’s Detectives had to be called into the case. “(Holland Public Safety) asked for the assistance of the sheriff’s office in this case because the deceased was in a close relationship with a retired civilian city employee,” Bennett explained. “The employee is not a suspect in any criminal activity related to this case.”
The identity of that employee was not disclosed.
