ALLENDALE, MI (WHTC) – Allendale Public Schools will go outside of the Lakeshore for its next operational leader.
During Tuesday evening’s meeting, the district’s Board of Education voted 5-2 in favor of Garth Cooper to become the new Superintendent, effective July 1st upon the retirement of Dan Jonker after nine years. Dr. Cooper heads west after two years at the helm of Pewamo-Westphalia Community Schools, and has past instruction and administration experience in the Galesburg-Augusta, Battle Creek, Bentley and Bath districts. He beat out Scott Smith, Director of Human Resources and Assessment for Hudsonville Public Schools, in taking over the reins of the 26-hundred-student district.
District officials say that the board will meet again on Thursday to finalize terms of Dr. Cooper’s contract.
