GANGES TWP, MI (WHTC) – An unnamed 29-year-old trucker from northwest Indiana is expected to recover from injuries suffered in a Tuesday morning crash that shut down the major artery from South Haven to the Holland area.
According to Michigan State Police troopers, the trucker was northbound on I-196, approaching the 124th Avenue (M-89) exit west of Fennville, when his rig went off of the edge of the roadway in heavy fog around 6:15 AM. The driver attempted to steer the vehicle back into the highway, but the semi tipped onto its side toward the center median. No other vehicles were involved.
While first responders were taking the trucker from Lafayette, Indiana to Holland Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, crews needed several hours to right the cab and trailer, along with cleaning up diesel fuel that spilled onto the highway. Traffic was diverted onto the Blue Star Highway for about three hours.
