HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – As Tulip Time approaches, the Holland Energy Park is not ready.
There were many who were anticipating the new power plant at the edge of the Tulip City’s Eastern Gateway to be fully operational by the time Holland’s annual signature event begins in early May, but as First Ward Councilman Mike Trethewey and his Council colleagues were told by Holland BPW officials, not everything is in order yet.
“Got a couple of jet engines, boilers and miles and miles of pipes and wire and high pressure gas and a number of things. We want to make sure it is fully operational and safe for the employees and safe for the city. It’s going to have a longevity out there. I don’t think there are too far behind now and I think it should be fully operational very very shortly.
The utility is getting electricity “off of the grid” as the long-standing DeYoung Plant is gradually being deactivated before the new 240 million-dollar, 145-megawatt, natural gas-fueled facility off of Fairbanks Avenue is put into operation later this year.
