HOLLAND TWP, MI (WHTC) – Construction on US-31 will start up again on Monday, April 24.
At Lakewood Drive and US-31, work to complete structural steel painting begins and in order to complete the work two lanes will be closed on Lakewood Boulevard for approximately 2 weeks.
The work will be completed by Tulip Time says Leo Evans from the Michigan Department of Transportation. In the event that work is not completed, work will be suspended and all lanes reopened prior to the festival. During work on the bridge one lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction on Lakewood Boulevard on ½ of the roadway.
There should be no impacts to US-31 traffic during this work.
After completion of the work at Lakewood, the bridge painting will move to US-31 over the Black River and US-31 over Chicago Drive. Any work during the Tulip Time Festival will be completed utilizing only shoulder closures and will not have any lane closures.
After Tulip Time Festival lane closures will resume on US-31 and Chicago Drive. Whenever possible lane closures will be conducted during off-peak hours to minimize disruption to traffic.
Work is expected to be complete by mid-June.
