HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – A variety of activities are happening in the Holland area this week!
4/23 Sunday: The Free @ 3 Concert Series at First Reformed Church of Holland- The Free @ 3 Concert Series is held on various Sunday afternoons at 3:00 in the sanctuary of the First Reformed Church in Holland, Michigan. These concerts are open to the public and are free of charge. First Reformed Church was founded in 1847 when immigrants from the Netherlands built a log church in what is now Pilgrim Home Cemetery. The present building on the corner of 26th and State streets was built in 1962 and houses a thriving musical congregation. The sanctuary boasts a beautiful Mason & Hamlin grand piano which is used in many of the Free @ 3 concerts. It is also the home to a three manual, 39 rank, 1962 Casavant pipe organ. The chancel was remodeled in 2013 in part to accommodate the various musical groups which perform on the Free@3 series. 630 State Street, Holland.
4/24 Monday: One Night Only Series: “Hang Em High” at The Knickerbocker Theatre- An innocent man, Jed Cooper (Clint Eastwood), is lynched and left for dead after being accused of cattle rustling and murder. Marshal Dave Bliss (Ben Johnson) saves Cooper and gives him a trial with Judge Adam Fenton (Pat Hingle). Cooper’s innocence is proven and he is given a job as a marshal. Instead of seeking revenge, Cooper seeks to bring the men who lynched him to justice and pay for their crimes. A critical and commercial success, the film was United Artists’ biggest opening ever, including all of the James Bond films the company had already released. 86 East 8th Street, Holland; 7:30pm.
4/25 Tuesday: Spring Collections Reveal at Kruizenga Art Museum: A week-long exhibition featuring the latest Spring/Summer fashion from downtown Holland’s independent, women’s clothing stores in response to the KAM’s new art. Styled mannequins will be displayed April 25-29 Come for a special AFTER HOURS evening event on Thursday, April 27 from 5-8pm to tour the museum, see the fashion, and enjoy a small craft. 4/26 Wednesday: Picnic with a Purpose at Calvary Church- Come enjoy a picnic-style meal, fishing in the pond, and a time of making new friends! Also, sign up to help create hygiene kits for relief in natural disaster situations around the world. 400 Beeline Rd, Holland; 5:30 PM – 8 PM.
4/27 Thursday: The Blue Coat at the Knickerbocker Theatre- The Blue Coat is an original ballet by Turning Pointe’s Resident Choreographer Tess Sinke that follows the story of a young girl whose humble heart and Christ-like love guide her on a journey through the seasons to find her Grandfather. 4/28 Friday: Parents Night Out at Holland East School- Drop the kids off with us and enjoy a night for yourself! Kids will have the opportunity to participate in basketball, volleyball, soccer, arts & crafts, board games, and much more! Concessions will be available at the event. 4/29 Saturday: World TaiChi & Qigong Cay of Peace – Community Practice at 8th St. Splashpad- Hosted by Freedom Village Holland’s Tai Chi Easy Classes this educational event brings people together across ethnic,racial,religious and geographical borders celebration of personal and global health and healing!
