GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC) – With Tuesday’s deadline passed, the list of municipal office hopefuls for 2017 in Ottawa County is now set, with a number of contested races looming.
In Holland, a second-straight battle for the Mayor’s chair is ahead as incumbent Nancy DeBoer will be challenged by second ward councilman Jay Peters. While Mike Trethewey is running unopposed for another four-year term in the first ward, incumbent Brian Burch will be challenged by Raul Garcia and Tim Marroquin in the third ward. Todd Whiteman has decided not to go for a third four-year term in the fifth ward, with Allegan County Emergency Services Director Scott Corbin running unopposed for that spot. Finally, at-large councilman Quincy Byrd, who was appointed two years ago to complete the term of DeBoer, goes for his first full four-year term, challenged by Sarah LeFebre.
Other contested municipal races in Ottawa County are in Coopersville, Ferrysburg and Grand Haven. A link to the unofficial candidate listing from county Clerk Justin Roebuck’s office is here.
According to the Allegan County Clerk’s Office, municipalities have individual deadlines for candidate filing and there is no county-wide date.
