4/30 Sunday: Lakeshore Blessing of the Bikes at Ottawa County Fairgrounds- The community gathering will start the 2017 riding season with a blessing for the riders to have a safe year, promote a sense of fellowship among bikers and to support local charities. 1286 Ottawa Beach Rd, Holland; 3pm Blessing, gates 10am; $5 donation per vehicle.
5/1 Monday: Paul’s Pharmacy 63rd Anniversary Celebration- Paul’s is celebrating 63 wonderful years of caring for Holland, MI! 5/2 Tuesday: 2017 Faith Community Conference to End Domestic Abuse and Relationship Violence- The West Michigan the 2017 Faith Community Conference to End Domestic Abuse and Relationship Violence will be a full day event hosted by the Churches and Faith Communities of Western Michigan with the purpose of raising awareness, providing education, and sharing resources to equip our community and congregations to provide the help so desperately needed by those who suffer in silence. Lunch will be included and followed by an afternoon panel discussion. Resource tables will be available for people to pick up information and talk with the resource providers (CWIT, Safe Haven Ministries among others). At least two safe rooms will be available for the duration of the conference. This conference is open to all who care about those who suffer from abuse — every woman, man, child — who could live a life more fully realized by being in a safe environment and surrounded by a community that strives to come together to make a permanent and profound difference. 595 Graafschap Road, Holland; 8:30 AM – 4:45 PM.
5/3 Wednesday: Rich Burkholder Wednesday’s at Brew Merchant- The talented Rick Burkholder performs every Wednesday at Brew Merchant. 5/4 Thursday: Holland Friends of Art Spring Show Opening Reception at the Holland Area Arts Council- Celebrate the opening of the Holland Friends of Art Spring show with wine, light snacks and conversations with the artists on Thursday, May 4 from 6 to 8pm. It’s time for the Spring Art Show! Every year Holland Friends of Art (HFA) members bring in 1 or 2 pieces of artwork to submit for display in the Spring and during Tulip Time. It’s an opportunity for the community and the organization to display the high quality of local talent for the large groups of people who visit the Arts Council during this time of the year. This year, local artist and educator Lee Ann Frame will be the juror. Lee Ann lives where she was born and reared, near the shores of Lake MI. She is the founder of Norris Creek Printmaking Studio and currently teaches at Muskegon Community College. Lee Ann’s formal art education began at Grand Valley State University, MI (BFA) and at Kendall College of Art and Design, Michigan (MFA). 150 E 8th St, Holland; 6-8pm; Free.
5/5 Friday: LAUP Fiesta at The Shops at Westshore- One of the longest running events of its kind in West Michigan, the Latin American United for Progress (LAUP) Fiesta now draws over 20,000 attendees every year. Fiesta features Latino entertainment, a carnival, various exhibitors, and everyone’s favorite: lots of food! Latin Americans United For Progress (LAUP) of Holland is looking forward to a new year and some changes too. LAUP Fiesta which runs May 6th and 7th is moving to the Shops of Westshore says Executive Director Roberto Jara. Jara told WHTC’s Talk of the Town Program that with all of the construction around the Civic Center, they need more space and to do it right have decided to move it to The Shops at Westshore on US-31. 12335 James St (near J C Penney’s), Holland. 5:00 – 10:00 PM
5/6 Saturday: Tulip Time Run at Kollen Park- ome, run and experience the beauty of Holland! The Tulip Time Run offers a Kids Fun Run, 5K and 10K. All runs will start and end at the corner of Kollen Park Dr. and 12th Street. Medals will be given to the top three of each age division (both male and female). Don’t miss the Health & Fitness Expo & Packet Pickup at MVP Athletic Club on Friday, May 5, and the After Party at Boatwerks Restaurant immediately following both races.
