ZEELAND, MI (WHTC) – While voting on a budget for Fiscal 2018 highlights tonight’s Zeeland City Council meeting agenda, an item that will be discussed in the work study session beforehand may have an impact beyond that city’s limits.
The current property millage rate of 11.2-plus mills would not be altered under the proposed spending plan that would allocate over 1.5 million dollars from the general fund for spending during the fiscal year that begins on July 1st. The overall financial blueprint has a 5.3 million-dollar price tag on it.
During the discussion before the meeting, City Manager Tim Klunder wants to take up the topic of establishing a fixed MAX bus route stop at Spectrum-Zeeland Community Hospital. Only on-demand bus service is currently available at that location. A preliminary analysis conducted by MAX Transit concluded that adding a stop on the current Zeeland route is not feasible time wise, and that dropping a current stop to accommodate ZCH is the best solution. Council is being asked to give their input on the matter.
The work-study session begins in City Hall at 6 PM, an hour before the business meeting. Mayor Kevin Klynstra is scheduled to talk about these and other topics with Ed Ver Schure and you during his monthly visit to “WHTC Talk of the Town” at 9:30 AM on Tuesday.
