HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – The Holland Area Arts Council will be a place of so much activity during the 2017 Tulip Time Festival with the Art in Bloom Competition, Quilt Show and a new interactive exhibit just for kids in The Studio.
The Arts Council is easy to find and convenient Program Director Mary Sundstrom says, just follow your nose. “We are right next door to all the elephant ear wagons.”
The Studio features a special box Dutch Village installation and Tulip Time themed projects like quilt coloring pages, paper tulips and paper Dutch hats.
“I myself have created a refrigerator box Dutch Village for kids to crawl around and play in. It’s really fun and we expect the boxes to be destroyed by the end of the week, but that’s all part of the fun.” says Sundstrom. It opens at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 5.
For the 7th year, the Art in Bloom competition will feature the top 20 artists works from the Tulip Time Poster Contest First Bloom. Included in the display is this years Tulip Time Poster winning image “Playful Time” by Michele Gort. The public is invited to to participate in the Viewers’ Choice Awards by voting for their favorite image. Cash prizes will be awarded on May 13 to the top three works of art with the most votes. Voting is open from Saturday, May 6 through Friday, May 12 at 4:00 p.m.
The annual Quilt Show gives visitors an opportunity to view a unique display of over 100 exquisite handmade bed quilts, wall hangings and art quilts by local artists in the Padnos and Armstrong Galleries. Entry to the Quilt Show is $6 per person. Hours and schedule can be found online. The Arts Council will raffle off a quilt and raffle tickets are available at the exhibit.
In conjunction with the Quilt Show, the Arts Council raffles off a beautiful quilt. Raffle tickets cost $1 each or 6 for $5 and are on sale starting Friday, April 21 until 11:00am on Saturday, May 13. The drawing will take place on Saturday, May 13 at 12:00pm. You do not need to be present to win.
