HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Dutch Dance is a staple of the 2017 Tulip Time Festival just like the tulip is.
There is a lot of planning and organization that goes into preparing dancers young and old. Dances have to be taught, schedules made for rehearsals and then preparing for the time when the dancers show off their hard work during the Tulip Time Festival.
Jennifer Tenpas has been a Dutch Dance Director for Kinder Dance for two years now. She organizes who the coaches are, when practices should start and puts it all together. This year there are a little over 72 kids in Kinder Dance. Tenpas was a Dance Coach for seven years prior to becoming a director for the Dutch Dance dance program.
Darcy Logan is the Black River Schools Kinder Dance and and High School Dutch Dance Director. Logan starts preparing students in January for the May festival.
“What I love about it is the joy that they have for learning about the culture of what their community is built on the Dutch culture. The high school has 13 dancers and Kinder Dance has 36 students.”
The dancers are well prepared as they never looked better at Centennial Park Monday evening. Kinder Dutch Dance and Dutch Dance is every day during the 2017 Tulip Time Festival. You can find them at Centennial Park, Kollen Park, on 8th Street and at other locations.
A schedule is available online. You can download the Tulip Time App and Festival Guide to your smartphone too.
The 2017 Tulip Time Festival runs through May 14, 2017.
