LANSING, MI (WHTC) – A kindergarten teacher in the Wayland Union public school district has earned a statewide honor.
Danielle LaJoye was awarded an Excellence in Education plaque, along with a 500-dollar cash prize for herself and a separate 500-dollar grant for her Dorr Elementary School Classroom, by Michigan State University men’s basketball coach Tom Izzo and officials of the Michigan Lottery on Monday. Meagan Fisch, a parent of one of her students who nominated LaJoye for the weekly honor, told the Lottery Commission that she was an educator “who gives her students the best she has to offer as a teacher and a friend … who cares about every student (and) uses positive reinforcement and talks about making the right choices with her class.”
In her fifth year with the district, LaJoye is now eligible for the Lottery’s “Educator of the Year” award that will be selected in June. The Lottery established this program to recognize outstanding public school educators across the state and to spotlight its contribution to education in Michigan.
