HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – A development that would turn a surface parking lot into a multi-purpose structure that wouldn’t adversely affect the amount of spaces for vehicles downtown will be presented before Holland City Council members this evening.
Last October, the panel approved a six-month-long exclusivity agreement with Wisconsin-based Burton Katzman in order for the developer to determine whether Parking Lot 7C off of 7th Street near Central Avenue could be converted into a mixed-used building and public parking ramp. An appraised value of the site was determined in February to be 1.25 million dollars.
Tonight, Burton Katzman staffers will put before Council their proposed development that they claim would be consistent with the city’s downtown strategic and overall master plans, along its zoning ordinance, while not reducing the number of free parking spaces downtown, allow the city to receive “adequate value” in return for the property, and show how it would benefit the Holland community.
No vote on whether to allow the development to move forward is planned this evening by the City Council; that decision should come later this year.
