HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – The City of Holland’s Public Television Team made a commitment to better connect with residents utilizing social media and broadcast content with the focus being on events, behind the scenes and human interest stories. The results have paid off.
They have now been nominated for a Regional EMMY® in the Human Interest – News Single Story category for their “Memorial Day 2016” video.
The video takes you through the Memorial Day ceremony at Pilgrim Home Cemetery and highlights the over 1,000 flags that are put out every year.
Holland’s Multi-Media Specialists Eric Bruskotter and Kevin Lee are in competition with two television stations, WWTV/WWUP (CBS affiliate for northern Lower and eastern Upper Peninsula) and WXYZ (Detroit’s ABC affiliate) to win the prestigious award. The winners of the 39th Regional EMMY® Nominees will be announced at a formal awards ceremony in Detroit on June 10th
On the heels of the Regional EMMY® Nomination, a production crew for “NBC Nightly Newswith Lester Holt” was in Holland to do a segment on Tulip Time. The NBC team asked if they could use Holland’s Tulip Time video footage. When the segment aired last week, much of the video, including Tulip Lane and drone footage was Holland’s.
Holland has been early adaptors of technology. When Facebook first offered live stream, theywere one of the first to use it, and still do today. For those that miss a Tulip Time parade, the City streams each of them live. In addition to livestreaming the three parades, they produce multiple videos highlighting the many facets of the festival. Stats during the Tulip Time Festival were 486,198 views across all their social media outlets. Currently, Holland’s social media outlets have garnered 2.8 million views.
