5/21 Sunday: Adult Kickball Tournament at Matt Urban Sports and Recreation Complex –Come cheer on our community kickball teams! 429 E. 24th St, Holland; 1 PM – 6 PM.
5/22 Monday: Spring Knickerbocker Film Series: After the Storm- The film focuses on Ryota (Hiroshi Abe), a prize-winning writer who cannot repeat his success and tries to make ends meet as a private detective. After his father dies, Ryota wants to reconnect with his mother, ex-wife and young son, but everyone is wary of him given his past history. In the midst of a stormy life and a stormy night, Ryota begins to find a way to reconnect and move forward. The film is not rated and is in Japanese with English subtitles. 86 East 8th Street, Holland; 7:30; $7 for regular admission and $6 for senior citizens, Hope College faculty and children.
5/23 Tuesday: For the Love of Paint at Great Legs Winery Brewery Distillery- Painting Class with Artist Molly Hathaway! These aren’t “paint by number” types of classes, but working on real art techniques, and she helps you to go home with a painting that you are happy with! Beginners and experienced welcome. 332 East Lakewood Boulevard, Holland; 6:30 PM – 9 PM; $35.
5/24 Wednesday: Poor Farm Documentary Premiere & Party at Park Theatre-Inspired by the success of the recent Poor Farm Sesquicentennial, a documentary on the facility was created over the winter. The film was made in association with the Ottawa County Parks Foundation and Ferris State University by co-producers Assistant Professor, Joshua Pardon and local historian, Marjie Viveen. Additional research was collected, and many of the re-enactors who participated in the 150th anniversary celebration were interviewed for the film. FSU students edited these assets to profile this iconic property and its amazing people. There will be a special movie premiere event in both Holland and Grand Haven. At each event guests can expect light snacks and a beer and wine cash bar. There will be a small silent auction and live music. The documentary will be introduced by the co-producers and its run time is about a half an hour. DVDs will be available for sale. All proceeds from the documentary will be donated to the Ottawa County Parks Foundation. 248 S. River Ave, Holland; 6 PM – 8 PM; $10.
5/25 Thursday: Entwined Environments Opening Reception at Holland Area Arts Council- Entwined Environments explores the environmentally focused work of two artists, Ken Foster and Lisa Medendorp. While Lisa Medendorp works with paint on two-dimensional canvases and Ken Foster uses reclaimed materials to create three-dimensional, tactile forms and structures, their work unites under their theme of the interconnected web of nature. Medendorp’s curvilinear, non-objective shapes mirror the three-dimensional weavings of Foster’s reclaimed materials and tell stories about how everything in nature is related and highlight the importance of taking care of our environment. 150 E 8th St, Holland, MI; 6-8pm; Free.
5/26 Friday: Carter Lezman at Macatawa Ale Company- Carter brings a tasty mix of styles and dynamic vocals and guitar work! 102 S River Ave, Holland; 8 PM – 11 PM; Free.
5/27 Saturday: Elton John Tribute at Park Theatre- Elton Rohn BLEW. THE. CROWD. AWAY. the last time he took the stage at the Park, and they couldn’t be happier to have him back. You’ll swear you’re taking in a vintage 1970s Elton John show, in the incomparably intimate setting of the Park! All the classics, sung and played note perfect. This is a “don’t miss it” show!
