HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – 5×5 Night is a pitch competition for early stage ideas brought to you by Lakeshore Advantage in Holland in partnership with Grand Rapids Start Garden.
Right now 23 business ideas are up for vote. Everything from an app to connect farm workers with farmers to a self feeding automatic football throwing machine called the KLYP.
Brooke Corbin is Manager of Innovation Solutions at Lakeshore Advantage and says Hope College students came up with the KLYP.
“It was formed out of a problem that one of the young entrepreneurs had on the Hope College Football team. It is a self feeding device that you are able to go out and play football and practice your game without having to have a partner or someone out there feeding the machine.”
The students who submitted the idea are Will VanDommelan, Jake Kozlowski and Stephen Glover. The KLYP has recently gained attention of Minnesota Viking’s Fullback Zach Line.
You can vote for up to five businesses until 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, and then on May 31 at the JW Center at Haworth, the public is invited to come out and see the top five pitch their ideas to five judges. The event starts at 5 p.m. and the winner takes home $5,000. It’s free and food and beverages will be served.
Last years winner was Zoe Bruyn whose idea was the Stir It Up Bakery. The bakery is dedicated to producing and selling high-quality goods created by the talents of the special needs young adults in our community. Corbin says she has done some incredible things since winning the $5,000 last year.
