HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Making downtown Holland completely accessible to broadband Internet was the centerpiece of a joint study session by the Holland City Council and the board of the Holland Board of Public Works last night.
The two panels had agreed back in February to talk about “successfully implementing” such a network “based on the business case and begin tracking results,” according to a document by City Manager Ryan Cotton submitted ahead of this session at Holland City Hall. This past Monday, the utility’s board approved a resolution that would execute a plan to establish this network, ahead of a vote by Council next month.
The BPW cites the success of a pilot program in a handful of downtown businesses in arguing for the expansion that could cost over 600 thousand dollars. Public hearings on proposed rates for this service would be held prior to work on this project, with a timeline for completion set by mid-fall.
